Top tips for a social spring clean!
So, we’re a good couple of months into 2022.
How are things going for you?
How’s your business doing?
And more specifically, how well are your social media campaigns performing?
Are you getting the kind of response you were expecting from your social posts? Or do you feel like all your carefully crafted content is falling on deaf ears?
As we waltz our way into the second quarter of the year, now is a great time to carry out a bit of a social spring clean. It’s a great way to spruce up your main social media accounts and make sure you’re focusing your attention in the right areas.
Here’s a handy little process to help you fine tune your social output ready for the spring!
Step 1: Carry out a full audit on all your socials
The first thing you need to do is review the results you’re getting from your social media campaigns.
Most of the major social media sites have their own analytics and reporting tools, and there are plenty of free platforms available that will help you gather data on how your organic and paid-for posts have performed. The key stats you’re looking out for are:
- Post views
- Post reach
- Post engagement
As you collect all this data, you might find that certain types of posts are doing really well for you – and these are the kinds of posts you need to be creating more of!
You also might realise that some content isn’t doing as well as you’d hoped on certain platforms. Don’t be afraid to pause or reduce activity on a specific site if it’s not showing you the love you expect. Step 2: Check out what your competitors are doing
There are two types of social media managers: those of us who are obsessed with what our biggest rivals are doing, and those of us who prefer to stay in our own lane and do our own thing!
But whichever camp you’re in, it’s useful to take a quick look at the kind of content other companies are sending out, and what kind of response it’s getting from their followers. It’s perfectly fine to check in on the competition and take inspiration from their success. (Just don’t outright copy their ideas, for obvious reasons!)
Step 3: Update all your social media profiles
It’s probably been a while since you’ve spruced up your banners or updated your bios, right?
Take an hour or two to go through each of your social media profiles and brighten them up with fresh text, photos and videos. Explore the various features on offer from each platform and see if you can use them to your advantage.
For example, you might want to update your LinkedIn profile with your latest qualifications or testimonials, or add specific services and offers to your business page on Facebook.
Be sure to check that all your business contact details are correct, too. You’d be surprised how often I spot dodgy links, wrong phone numbers and misspelled email addresses!
Step 4: Plan some new content
Update your content calendar with post ideas that will see you through the next few months. Ideally, you want to be keeping promotional content to a minimum and creating posts that add value to your followers’ feeds instead. You don’t need to plan every post down to a T, but it helps to at least have a rough idea of what you want to say, and when you want to say it.
Also, make sure you save space for more reactive and conversational content to save your output from getting too clinical.

Step 5: Rekindle old connections
As your following grows, it can be super hard to stay in touch with the people you’ve connected with in the months (and even years) gone by.
Take the time to kickstart conversations with key clients, old colleagues, and your biggest brand ambassadors. Pick 5 to 10 people you haven’t caught up with in a while and drop them a message to see how they’re doing. They’ll be delighted to hear from you – and who knows, they may be able to introduce you to your next big business opportunity!
Step 6: Change your passwords!
This is more of an admin task – but you really should be changing your access details regularly to keep all your accounts safe and secure.
You could keep track of all your latest passwords in a secure Excel spreadsheet. There are lots of password manager tools available, too; LastPass is easy to use and offers a free version.
